Helsinki City Transport, Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council and partnering companies invite all UITP guests for a demonstration of latest public transportation telematics in use in Helsinki 21-23.5.2007.
HKL, YTV and partnering companies WSP Finland, Digita, Indagon, Deal Tech Media and Nokia display the latest smart public transportation solutions. All UITP guests are welcome to visit the demo bus during their visit in Helsinki.
Smart public transportation shortens journey times, improves passenger service and reduces costs through information and telematics solutions. HKL and YTV have been among the first in the world to take advantage of new technologies. Opportunity for this has been especially good in Finland due to advanced mobile networks and telecom/IT competence.
The demo bus is equipped with Deal Tech Media’s passenger display system. Real-time information is distributed through in-bus display and WiFi-connection, that can be used for example with Nokia N800 Internet Tablets or with mobile phones equipped with Wi-FI connection. Data connection uses Digita’s @450 wireless broadband network, which was opened for commercial use in April 2007. Communications equipment and positioning is provided by Indagon. With positioning the buses can be given traffic light priorities, which reduce travel time and operating cost. Traffic light priorities, bus-stop displays and overall coordination is provided by WSP Finland.
The demo bus tour takes 25 minutes and includes some of Helsinki’s most popular sights. Departure is Monday to Wednesday from Helsinki Fair Centre Eastern entrance according to following timetable: 9:15 am; 10 am; 10:45 am; 12 noon; 12:45 pm; 01:30 pm.
